TraeWork and TraeCode are now one TRAE: what changes

ByteDance folded its office agent and its coding IDE into a single TRAE app. Here's what moved, what migrates automatically, and the deadline TraeWork users need to know.

On October 9, 2026 ByteDance merged TraeWork and TraeCode into “the all-new TRAE”, one app where you switch between Agent mode (run several agents across projects) and IDE mode (hands-on editing and debugging). Per TRAE's migration doc, updating the TraeWork desktop app installs TRAE and migrates chat history, account data, profile, commercial credits, sign-in and local data automatically. TechNode reports the standalone TraeWork service shuts down on October 23, 2026.

What changed

Until this month TRAE shipped two clients: TraeWork for task planning, office work and content, and TraeCode for developers. The official doc describes the new TRAE as “an integrated platform that supports the entire development lifecycle” — from breaking down requirements and generating implementation plans to delivering results.

  • Agent mode is the workbench: manage multiple projects in one workspace, run several agents on different tasks in parallel, work across local directories or a remote environment over SSH.
  • IDE mode keeps the full AI-powered editor for in-depth editing and debugging within one project.
  • Automation, Marketplace and My Artifacts become part of the same workflow.

How to migrate from TraeWork

  1. Update the TraeWork desktop app to the latest version and accept the upgrade prompt.
  2. TRAE is downloaded and installed automatically; chat history, account data, profile, commercial credits, sign-in status and local data are migrated with no manual steps (per the TRAE doc).
  3. TraeWork is then uninstalled automatically, and its local data (logs, AI data) is deleted. Anything already synced to TRAE is unaffected — so let the upgrade finish before you clean up.

New users simply install TRAE from the TRAE download center. Do it before October 23, 2026: coverage says TraeWork users who haven't upgraded lose access after that date.

Who this matters for

If you used TraeCode as your editor, the upgrade is mostly additive: you gain Agent mode for parallel, multi-project tasks. If you used TraeWork for office tasks, you now get them inside a coding-capable app and must migrate by the deadline. Teams evaluating agent workbenches will find the same split elsewhere — compare Cursor's agents window, Devin Desktop's agent manager, or Google Antigravity.

We have not independently verified TRAE pricing or model lineup after the merge, so this page doesn't list them; check TRAE's own site.

FAQ

Are TraeWork and TraeCode being merged?
Yes. TRAE announced on October 9, 2026 that TraeWork and TraeCode are merged into the all-new TRAE, a single app with switchable Agent mode and IDE mode, available on desktop, web and mobile.
When does TraeWork shut down?
TechNode, citing TRAE, reports the standalone TraeWork service shuts down on October 23, 2026. Upgrade before then to keep access.
Will my TraeWork data and credits carry over?
Per TRAE's migration doc, updating the TraeWork desktop app migrates chat history, account data, profile, commercial credits, sign-in status and local data to TRAE automatically. TraeWork is then uninstalled and its local data deleted; data synced to TRAE is not affected.
What is the difference between Agent mode and IDE mode in TRAE?
Agent mode is a workbench for running several agents on different tasks across projects, locally or over SSH. IDE mode is the full AI-powered editor for detailed editing and debugging inside one project. You can switch between them in the same app.
Do I need to do anything as a TraeCode user?
TraeCode users get the new TRAE as an update; the manual upgrade prompt and the October 23 deadline apply to TraeWork.
